Visual Traffic is an application that will improve your broadcast operation (and your job) by turning the sometimes complicated process of "traffic" into a relatively easy operation. With this in mind, we have attempted to write this help information in plain, simple language.
The terminology used in VT for standard functions and movement are the same as any other Windows product. Because you will be spending a great amount of your time working in VT, we recommend you take the time to make sure you are familiar with the way Windows objects work. We believe you will save a lot of time by taking time "up front" to learn how to use VT efficiently.
Be sure to review the this information about features that are only available on the VT server. There aren’t many of these functions, but the few that we discuss are very important to VT and therefore they are important to you. For example, we discuss the VT scheduler dialog. If someone turns the scheduler off on the server, VT will not schedule another spot until someone turns it on again. There are reasons why you might want to turn it off sometimes.
This Interactive Manual attempts to simultaneously function as a reference manual and a help file system, with a liberal sprinkling of "How to" thrown in. Our objective is to provide information to people who have never seen Visual Traffic, as well as to veterans looking for one quick answer to something very specific. Whether you are a VT novice, a regular user, or an expert, you will find information about all the buttons and all the functions.
If you know the purpose of all the dialog controls, that is frequently enough information to tell you "how" to use the controls in your broadcast situation. However, we understand that describing a function is not the same as explaining how to use it (or whether you even want to use the function) in your broadcast stations’ operations.
Every station’s procedures are different however, and it is tough to explain how to do things because everyone does them slightly (sometimes not so slightly) differently. Your VT Training Specialist is your best immediate source of "how to" do things when getting started. They can customize operations and procedures to meet your individual needs.
VT is friendly once you get the general feel of the program. You will find that many of the available options and buttons will not ever need to be changed or are options you will not choose to use at your station. There are many options available to give you all the flexibility and power you need.
You will never need to use every function available in VT. Use the features that meet your station requirements. VT can adapt to changes in your procedures should it become necessary.
